It all began in the summer of 2024 at a church conference in Tonga. Diane was performing a beautiful tau'olunga for her vahefonua, and Fono was in the crowd, completely captivated. Swept away by her grace and presence, he couldn’t help himself; he stood up and tulafale’d for her right then and there. That bold moment sparked something special.A few weeks later, their paths crossed again online, and what started as casual messages on Facebook soon turned into long, meaningful conversations. As their connection deepened, Fono knew he had to see her again, this time not in front of hundreds of people, but face to face.With his mom and sister by his side, he made the journey from New Zealand to California to meet Diane in her hometown. That visit was filled with laughter, shared moments, and a growing certainty: this was something real. By the time Fono returned home, his heart was already made up. He sat down with his dad and said, “I want to marry her.”Fast forward to May 24, 2025, the day Fono proposes to Diane, sealing a love story that began with a dance, a tulafale, and a leap of faith. The rest, as they say, is history in the making.
